What is Ulcerative Colitis?

Ulcerative Colitis (UC) is a chronic disease where the colon (aka large intestine) of a person becomes inflamed and develops tiny open sores or ulcers the produce mucous or pus. This leads to discomfort and frequent emptying of the colon.
UC is a result of immune system attacking the food, bacteria and other materials in the intestine as foreign bodies. The immune system White Blood Cells (WBCs) into the intestine lining for repair which in turn causes inflammation and ulceration. UC is different from other diseases like Crohn’s disease, Gout etc. since only the colon is affected in UC. Ulcerative Colitis belongs to a group of diseases called Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS)
The patients of UC may be able to lead normal lives in between flare-ups which can recur after days, months or even years.

Signs and Symptoms of Ulcerative Colitis:

1. Loose Bowel Movement
2. Frequent Bowel Movement
3. Diahorrea-like symptoms with abdonimal pain
4. Blood in stool
5. Persistent stomach cramps

Treatment of Ulcerative Colitis:

Ulcertive Colitis can be treated mainly by correcting the immune system so that it stops attacking the colon. But for relief from pain and other symptoms, here are a few things that can be done:
1. Ingesting anti-inflammatory drugs like Gufic Sallaki
2. Avoiding food items or ingredients which bring the flare-ups (spices, fibre etc.)
3. Eating soft food items high in nutrients
4. Surgery

Sallaki Dosage Recommendation for Ulcerative Colitis:

One Sallaki-600 tablet twice a day for 8 weeks (or in intense pain due to UC)
Followed by one Sallaki-400 tablet once a day.
