Etude House released two 10 color eyeshadow palettes – 01 So Hot Play and 02 So Chic Play – a few weeks ago. And since I like using eyeshadow palettes and love trying out Etude House products in general, I got both of the eyeshadow palettes. These cost 20000 KRW. See my swatches post. I got these in Korea so I cannot give any guidance about where to get them if you are outside Korea. I have been using these palettes on most days now and am ready to review them. So today let’s review the Etude House Play Color Eyes 01 So Hot Play palette.
Etude House Play Color Eyes Eyeshadow Palette #1 So Hot Play (shades from left to right)
- Party Girl (sparkle)
- Burning Red (matte)
- Temptation (matte)
- Naked (matte)
- Pony Tail (shimmer)
- Modern City (shimmer)
- Chic Blue (shimmer)
- All Night (shimmer)
- Snow Queen (sparkle)
- Military Khaki (shimmer)
This palette has 3 matte, 2 sparkle and 5 shimmer shades.
I find that these work well is I use them with my fingers. Especially the sparkly shades are not easy to build with a brush. They come off in chunks and do drop off a lot. But they are beautiful and with a little bit of skill and concentration look beautiful on the lids.
I apply the lightest shade Naked and/or Ponytail on my eyelids as the base color always before using any other shade especially sparkly ones.
For a slight shimmery effect I lightly dust the sparkly shade all over my eyelid (over the base shade). But for more pigmentation, I pack it with my ring finger!
There are more darker shades in this palette and I think the Chic Blue and All Night colors look great for lining the eyes. They also create a beautiful smokey eye!
The first shade from right – Military Khaki is my least favorite shade of mine from this palette because it shows up more gold than khaki on swatching. And also because I had high hopes from it. It could have been a unique shade.
The USP of this palette are the shades: Burning Red(2), Temptation(3) and Modern City(6)
I have reached out for the 02 So Chic Play palette more than this one but this is a good palette over all.
Rating: 3.5/5
Recommend: Yes
Repurchase: Maybe
I really like the look that I get from this eyeshadow palette and the sparkly shade are pretty similar to pressed pigments. These sparkly shades look so creamy in the palette and they are high intensity when packed well. The shimmer and matte shades give good color payoff if applied with a dense eyeshadow brush or finger. I have not used Etude House eyeshadow palettes in the past but I am quite happy with this palette and would look out for what they release next! I think it is nice to have both the palettes since the colors compliment each other well. The So Chic Play has more colors and sparkly shades ad they go well with the dark matte/shimmer shades in this palette!
