I have been using a lot Oriflame products since October 2012 and the only products I have repurchased from them are the Nourishing Hand cream for Dry Hands and the Tender Care Protection Balm. I am done with Oriflame Tender Care Protection Balm for a while now.
Don’t get me wrong, I liked it. It is a good product but I needed change and once I ran out of my original Tender care balm, I went out to buy something different. Anything really.
I came back with LipIce and Nivea Lip Butter in Caramel cream. Both of these are available in major emart stores across Seoul. I went to emart in Jukjeon.
I love heavy sweet scents in lip balms, lotions and creams but not in perfumes. So the Nivea Lip Butter in Caramel Cream was right up my alley. I will review LipIce in an upcoming post so let’s get started with the review of Nivea Caramel cream Lip Butter.
I like twist-up form of lip balms more because of hygiene reasons but I gave-in to my sweet cravings for caramel. I just love that flavour in toffees. I was one of those kids who loved chewy caramel toffees. Who am I kidding, I still love them! So anyway…
The first thing that you notice when you open the little metal tub is that the lip butter looks like a fudge. Mmm…Yuck! It does not taste good 😉 (I tried licking some from my lips when I applied it first, not a good idea!)
I applied this at night and did feel it moisturizing me lips instantly. I have dry skin and my lips are always in need of moisturizing so it is not shocking for me to love it. When I woke up the next morning, I could feel the softness of my lips. Score!
But wait.
Now you would think I have written all good things about this product and I love it. NO!!! When I looked at the ingredients in the morning, I was shocked to see Aqua and Glycerin listed at #6 and 7 respectively way after Paraffinum Liquidum aka Mineral Oil.
If you care about natural products and are aware of the difference between good and bad ingredients in cosmetics, you know that skin care products should have (at least 90% of the time) Aqua and Glycerin as the first two key ingredients. The second thing is that a petroleum product is listed way above in the list.
I do not mind petroleum-based chemicals (in 80% of normal cosmetics which are not listed natural or organic) if they come way down in the list.
Another thing to note here is that petroleum-based products like Mineral Oil last on the surface of the skin, giving the illusion of softness and moisture while vegetable oils and other natural ingredients get absorbed by the skin and help attack the problem at the root.
Repurchase – No
Recommend – If you don’t care about Ingredients and can stand super sweet scent and texture, only then buy it

So I am not at all happy with this product. It performs good enough to “moisturize” my lips but I will not repurchase this or any other flavour from the same line. However, I will not throw this away – I will use it on my heels, cuticles, and lips till I finish it up! I am not into wasting things.
