I got the Etude House Sweet Recipe Cupcake Eyes Duo a few months ago and have been using it on and off. Today I am finally going to write a review on “BR401 Sugar Maple Syrup Choco” eyeshadow duo.

There were originally 8 eyeshadow duos released in this range with the Sweet Recipe Collection 2013. I loved the packaging right from the beginning but was not keen on getting the eyeshadow because of shimmer! I love shimmer, don’t get me wrong, but the contrast or combinations were not attractive enough for me. I finally got the BR401 after swatching all the shades (5 of them) this year. See the Swatch post. And I do remember mentioning that this is the only duo that made an impression on me.
Packaging-wise, this is the cutest baked eyeshadow duo ever. I love the cute print on the tin can that contains this delicious cupcake 😉 It is quite sturdy and travel- friendly. Even the plastic cover that comes over the tin is super cute. All the cupcake eyes duos comes in a similar packaging but the print on the tins is different based on the shades.
The color payoff of the eyeshadow is moderate from this collection but I am happy with this particular duo. Since these are baked eyeshadows, these can be used wet as well as dry but I have only used these dry and cannot comment on the longevity if used wet. These swatch better with a wet brush so I am guessing it works well that way. I do not use wet brushes as I am paranoid about spoiling the product as moisture can ruin makeup faster. So anyway. Makeup-wise…
The lighter shade works well all over the eye and the darker one works great for the crease. I also use the darker shade under my lower lashline for added definition. I think this duo contains complimenting neutral shades that can be used everyday. This is not the most versatile eyeshadow duo but for everyday use (mind the shimmer), this can be good value for money. The shimmer can cause fall outs but that is an accepted reality in the baked eyeshadow world and these eyeshadows do stay on all day especially if used with a primer. The colors blend well together and they last all day.
I use this duo usually with a dark lippie! Here is a basic look I created using this eyeshadow duo today:

The packaging is the highlight of this eyeshadow duo. The color payoff is moderate and may not work for darker skintones. The colors are also not very versatile and cannot create a lot of different looks. But for everyday use or simple neutral eye makeup, this is a good eyeshadow duo in case you like shimmer (else this whole collection is not for you). I have tried the Etude House Look At My Eyes eyeshadow singles and most of them work far better and are more versatile than the Sweet Recipe Cupcake eyes duos. But for the packaging and a shimmery neutral look, this eyeshadow duo is worth a try!
