Review: The Face Shop Lemon Real Nature Mask

I was on a “The Face Shop Mask Review” spree a little over two months ago but as the weather changed, I somehow got out of my habit of using face masks. I have been diagnosed with Tendonitis recently and am on strong medication to relieve the pain so my skin is acting up again (had a good last month though). So as my skin is getting dry again, I am using more face masks. I just used The Face Shop Real Nature Lemon mask and the Innisfree Berry Hydro Gel mask this week. So today I am reviewing The Face Shop Lemon Real Nature face masksheet!

The Face Shop Lemon Real Nature mask

Product: The Face Shop Real Nature Mask Lemon
Claim: A brightening mask sheet containing fresh lemon extract to brighten dull skin tone while maintaining its translucence.
Directions:

  1. Wash face and apply toner.
  2. Pull out the mask and carefully place it on the face.
  3. Remove after 10-12 minutes and tap lightly to absorb the remaining essence into the skin.

Review: A Sales Assistant at Holika Holika or Nature Republic once said that the basic face masksheets do nothing more than just moisturize the skin so it is better to invest in “high quality” mask sheets like the ones in the higher price range and contain special plant extracts. Of course it was not a revelation. I have used enough mask sheets to know that they are no magic potions but I also thought that she wanted me to buy expensive masks. I came back empty handed. I am sure of one thing now, the face masksheets are more for a deep moisturizing effect which can last anywhere from a day to 3-4 days plus the added convenience of not having to wash the face after using is addition to being relaxing and cooling. That is actually enough for me for 1$.
So anyway, I use at least one face mask each week and review sharing my thoughts on how I felt about it based upon one time use. And there is a slight difference between them. You can probably see that if you read my review on the other The Face Shop Real Nature masks. But I digress.
So I used the Real Nature Lemon masksheet and I chose that over my other face masks because it is a certain time of the month and my skin is acting crazy. It is oily in certain areas and dry in others. I thought the lemon mask sheet will moisturize, balance and soothe my skin. And it did!
The scent of this face mask is not as refreshing as the citrus scents are supposed to be but it is not intolerable (like Bamboo mask). The essence is not very runny so it did not drip all around. I kept the mask on for 20 minutes and then went to sleep. A coupe of red spots (oils) on my face had calmed down the next morning but the dry spots did not disappear much.
One of the things I appreciate about this mask is that Citrus Medica Limonum (Lemon) fruit extract is third in the Ingredient list (after Aqua, Glycerin) Thumbs up for that. Other important ingredients: Phaseolus Radiatus Extract (Mung bean), Betula Platyphylla Japonica Bark Extract (Japanese White Birch), Rumex Crispus Root extract (Curly/yellow dock).
But this also contains fragrance and parabens. I am not sure if parabens have been proven to be good or bad for the skin but I still try to avoid them in skincare.
Rating: 3.5/5
Recommend: Yes
Repurchase: Maybe
I have plenty of face masks and may not get to try this again but I like using it. With that being said, I like The Face Shop Mango Seed and Chia Seed masks more. The masksheets are made of unbleached cotton and are more soothing and moisturizing to the skin.

Do you like using face mask sheets? Have you tried The Face Shop Real Nature masks?
